The Araranguá Campus of the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina is a center of excellence in undergraduate education in health and technology in southern Santa Catarina. Computer Engineering


The Computer Engineering program at UFSC Araranguá offers comprehensive training in technology, hardware, and software, preparing professionals to work in areas such as programming, computer networks, robotics, industrial and commercial automation, microelectronics, digital signal processing, and automotive electronics. The program aims to educate engineers capable of integrating knowledge from engineering and computer science, developing solutions ranging from basic software to complex automation systems.

The program offers 60 places per year (30 per semester), with classes held in the afternoon and evening. The total course load is 3,600 hours, including supervised internships, complementary activities, and elective courses. The program can be completed in a minimum of 9 semesters and a maximum of 18 semesters.

Energy Engineering

The Energy Engineering program at the Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina prepares professionals to work in the production, conversion, storage, distribution, and use of energy, taking into account its environmental, social, and economic impacts. The program offers a multidisciplinary education, integrating knowledge from Earth Sciences as well as Mechanical, Electrical, Control, and Environmental Engineering. This approach enables graduates to work innovatively and strategically in a rapidly growing field.

The program offers two areas of concentration: Energy Conversion, and Bioenergy and Sustainability. These areas address key topics such as energy technologies, energy efficiency, and sustainable practices. The curriculum covers both electrical and non-electrical energy, including applications in residential, industrial, transportation, and infrastructure contexts.

Physiotherapy

The Physiotherapy Program at UFSC Araranguá is the first tuition-free program in the health field in southern Santa Catarina, providing high-quality education aligned with national curriculum guidelines. The program prepares professionals capable of preserving, developing, and restoring the functionality of organs and systems, working across a wide range of areas, including cardiology, pulmonology, neurology, pediatrics, orthopedics, traumatology, geriatrics, gynecology and obstetrics, dermatology, and sports medicine.

The program integrates teaching, research and outreach, with practical training in diverse settings such as health units, hospitals, clinics, nursing homes, APAE (Association of Parents and Friends of Exceptional Children), and community centers. This approach enables physiotherapists to promote health, prevent disease, and restore patient functionality. The training emphasizes advanced techniques, critical thinking, and ethical practice, contributing to improved quality of life for the population.

Medicine

Established in 2017, the Medicine program at UFSC Araranguá prepares physicians to work in health promotion, disease prevention, diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation, with a humanistic, critical, ethical, and socially responsible approach, serving both individuals and communities.

The program follows the National Curriculum Guidelines, ensuring comprehensive, humanistic, and reflective training, with the development of clinical, ethical, and holistic health care skills. It adopts a Problem-Based Learning (PBL) methodology, which fosters autonomy and active learning through the discussion of real clinical cases.

The program has been recognized as the best Medicine program in the state of Santa Catarina, according to Brazil’s Ministry of Education (MEC), standing out for its high academic quality and innovative teaching practices.

Information and Communication Technologies

The Undergraduate Program in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) prepares professionals to use, model, and develop solutions for economic, social, and cultural contexts through the application of ICT. The program covers areas such as programming, information systems, software engineering, databases, web applications, business management, and technologies for education and communication.

The program is interdisciplinary and designed to be completed in six semesters, with classes held in the evening.  It emphasizes problem-solving, innovation, creativity, and entrepreneurship. Students learn to plan, implement, and manage IT infrastructure in organizations, addressing regional demands and fostering stronger connections between the university and society.
